Friday, August 29, 2014: Catching up - Superman's latest appearance and other adventures

Even though I spent most of the Independence Day holiday hard at work on the second of two books I published this summer, I did take off an hour or so to observe the 4th of July parade out my second story front window, which overlooks Main Street in downtown Glen Ellyn.

Watching the event was like leafing through a folio of vintage Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post covers, serially featuring cub scouts with their soap box derby carts, vintage automobiles, marching bands, bag pipers, cheerleaders, flag wavers, men on horseback, fire trucks and a variety of other municipal vehicles.

There was even an appearance by Glen Ellyn's own Superman.
